Man Killed After SUV Crashes Off Roadway In Suffolk

Police are investigating a crash that killed a Long Island man.

It happened around 12:10 p.m. Friday, March 11 in Patchogue.

The man was driving a 2010 Honda CR-V westbound on Sunrise Highway Service Road when the vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a fence, located at 200 Chestnut Ave., before stopping in a driveway on Sinn Street, Suffolk County Police said.

The driver, identified as Glenn Schifano, age 61, of New Hyde Park, was transported by North Patchogue Fire Department ambulance to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue where he was pronounced dead a short time later, police said. 

Detectives believe Schifano may have suffered a medical event prior to the crash, said police.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
